These Guys first arranged a series of informal meetings, and offered invitations nationally, to anyone operating independently, providing the same, or equivalent professional engineering inspection services in their market, hoping to generate some interest in expanding the group. Very quickly they realized the huge benefits of sharing technical information and inspection resources with other independent Engineer Surveyors who had been brave enough to venture out on their own.
Within a year of their first meeting, a group of six independent inspection businesses formally established INITA (Independent National Inspection & Testing Association) in 1998, and invited carefully selected other professionally qualified and properly insured independent Engineer Surveyors operating in the same market to join. From this point INITA really started to grow.
The Health & Safety Executive Engineering Specialists and Inspectors have developed an enduring regular dialog with INITA, derived from their appreciation of the fact that INITA members are predominantly "coal-face" Engineer Surveyors, who have direct “hands on” experience of actually doing the job on site, and out in the field.
Following INITA meetings, the feedback received from the invited Health & Safety Executive guest speakers, regularly compliments the well informed standard of discourse they enjoy with the INITA membership concerning engineering safety issues of mutual interest and concern, both within the Health & Safety Executive Engineering Compliance Departments, and amongst the INITA membership.
